Resurrected Dream Journal
It started to gain traction, got lots of visitors and started many correspondences and the site was being referenced in many places. Of course, in 1995 there were only 100 website in existence, so there you go.
But, like with this site as well, it all was lost.. somehow. The website, the database of dreams, the 5″ floppy drives.. all were lost.
Until I found them.. over 20 years later!
So here we are then… “Journeyman’s Dream Journal – Redux“.
(Text of the original home page)
I had always dreamt, always There have been a few attempts at keeping a journal of these dreams but they never got very far. Over the last year or so, I have done my best to preserve this one.
My dreaming has developed to the point where I can now recognize the fact I am dreaming. I cannot control my actions, nor re-direct the flow of a dream, but I am conscious, while dreaming, that I am dreaming. Do you follow that? Because of this, if a dream ever becomes uncomfortable or frightening, I have the ability to wake myself up.
Recently, however, I have been trying to ‘stay asleep’. It has not worked all the time, but on a few occasions, the experience was tremendous. For example, in one dream, I was sliding towards a cliff, unable to prevent myself from going over the edge. As I went over, I forced myself to remain in the dream. I plummeted towards the ground and was able to see vivid images of the cliff’s face as I rushed by it. I awoke, however, before hitting the ground.
I am familiar with Lucid Dreaming, but I don’t know whether it applies to my dreams. If the definition of a LD is that you are conscious of the fact you are dreaming, then I LD. If it means you control the situations, then I do not. (Well, I did it once. See below.) However, I do not think I’m that far away from this. And, of course, whether controlling a dream is a good or a bad thing, I have yet to determine.
I have had dreams where I have flown, and have since read that these can be considered out-of-body experiences. I am not sure if I believe this theory, but I do know that the sensations accompanying these dream were much stronger than any other dreams I have ever had.
I have also recently accomplished in a dream what I had believed to be impossible. I died. And not once, but three times in the same dream! (I’ll create a link here to this dream as soon as I can.) As soon as I died, the dream looped back to the starting point and I did it all over again. each loop, however, I sensed the feeling of déjà vu, but was unable to prevent my death until the fourth go around. I actually realized what was to happen, and altered the dream flow. This has never happened again.
I have also noticed a few images and places and scenes that reoccur in my dreams. Night-time, glass walls and buildings, snakes. Not the same dream, just the same imagery. An example of this is that when I was young, I had dreamt often of a house on my street. The dream continued for a couple weeks and each time I entered the house, there was always something different waiting for me inside. One night there was a vampire standing in the shadows. Another night, I opened the door to see a pool full of alligators. Yet another night, I opened the door and found all my friends jumping down into the basement onto a floor full of mattresses. What these dreams and images mean, and why I remember these to this day, I know not.
I have done some research and study into the meaning of dreams. I have read most of the major players in the field of dream interpretation and was able to relate more with Jung than with anyone else. None of my studies, however, have revealed any underlying meaning to me, nor gave me a better understanding of them.
I have also taken my database of almost 300 dreams and indexed them by person, place, thing, action, object, emotion, etc., in an attempt to recognize any patterns, but if they exist, they elude me.
So why create this page! I did so after a friend suggested that I do so. I thought first off, that it would be a fun. I have a lot of strange and sometimes very twisted dreams and I am sure most of you will enjoy them. (And, no, I’m not saying that you are strange and twisted!)
Secondly, I thought that hearing different opinions, reactions, and interpretations to my dreams would give me a better understanding, not only of the dreams, but of myself as well.
So there you have it, there’s my story. If you stay aboard for a while, I will let you know how this all works out.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy your journey through my subconscious!

The full texts of Poe’s “Dream Within a Dream”:
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep – while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
